Northwest Forsyth held the lead for the team championship until the final event, the pole vault with Charlotte Myers Park taking a first and a tie for third to edge Northwest by half a point for the title. This was Myers Park's fourth straight championship.
One meet record fell, in the shot with Burlington's Reggie Loy bettering the eight year old record. Loy's 53-8 1/2 added over nine inches to the 1953 mark set by Durham High's Don Denning of 52-11.
