#1 Cameron Ponder
It's hard to deny Cameron Ponder the top spot after the track season he had last spring. Ponder ran 4:10 for a converted 1600 after taking 3rd at Penn Relays and also ran the North Carolina Junior Class Record in the 3200 of 8:56, also ranking top 10 all-time. Last season Ponder was 2nd in XC, won the indoor 1600, took 2nd in the outdoor 1600 and 3rd in the outdoor 3200 having a monster junior year against one of the best distance fields North Carolina's ever assembled. Last season Ponder took a late debut at Wendy's in October, and I suspect we'll see a similar delayed start to his season this fall. There is no doubt that Ponder is deserving of the top spot heading into the season, but the only time having a #1 next to your name matters is when the season is over.
