Who was one of the most underrated distance runners last spring? Sam Thornton ran 9:30 without getting to shine in the fastest race of the season at the NCHSAA 4A State Championships. Thornton took 5th in the brutal Midwest regional in the 3200 last fall. Thornton proved that he was able to contend with the best after a 5th place finish in the indoor 3200. In Thornton's second ever cross country season he became much more consistent and and ran 16:00. Thornton was also 14th at the 4A State Championships last fall and I think is certainly a lock for the top 10 this season. Can Thornton emerge as the next Cardinal Gibbons star?
