A fifth straight state title was taken away from Broughton last season when Tabor ended their four year state title streak.  They lose 2014/2015 state champ Jeremy Brown as he heads to Chapel Hill and Robbie Simmons to graduation.  But they still return a really strong top 5 lead by Lanier Derbyshire and Andrew Brooks.  Derbyshire really emerged last season running 15:41.  He was 8th at the 4A State Championships last fall and 5th on the outdoor track running 9:20 finishing 5th at the Outdoor state meet.  Derbyshire also ran 4:26 for 1600 which was a PR as well.  Derbyshire is the 5th overall returner as he heads into his senior XC season.

Andrew Brooks had a strong track season as well over the 800 and 1600 where he ran 1:54 and 4:18 where he finished 7th and 3rd respectively at the 4A State Meet.  Despite being better on the track Brooks was able to put together a strong XC season where he finished 24th at the 4A State XC Meet.  Brooks really shined at NXN Southeast where he set a new PR running 15:49 to end his junior season and become the #7 returner in NC this season.  Jeremy Brown's little brother Ryan Brown has had a strong first two seasons on the XC course and dipped under 16 for the first time at the Mideast Regional last season.  Jeremy broke out his junior year so maybe this year could be the same for Ryan.

Stuart Holmes really proved himself on the track last year where he ran 4:23 taking second place at the Mideast regional.  Holmes was 8th in the 1600 indoors.  Last year was a real break out year for Holmes where he went from a high 16 runner to a low 16 runner cracking the top 7 for the first time at Broughton.  Holmes track season could be good indication that he could be really strong this track season.  Jacob Wells, Hayes Derbyshire and Leslie Boney will also fight for a top 7 spot this season.  They also add transfer from Durham Academy Will Hopkins.  Hopkins is a rising junior who ran 2:20 and 4:40 for DA last season.  Hopkins was 13th at the NCISAA 3A State Championships last fall and holds a PR of 16:44 and will be a big factor assuming the transition to Broughton's training goes smoothly.
