Broughton missed out on the state meet narrowly last year but were missing #1 runner Savannah Jones at the regional meet, which could have caused them to make it out of the region. Jones had a strong season until it came to an end after the conference meet. She doesn't run outdoor track and plays soccer for Broughton instead, but that hasn't slowed her down in past XC seasons. Jones staying and coming back healthy makes Broughton a strong team this fall.
Junior Sarah Grimes
had a break out indoor and outdoor track season for Broughton. She ran 5:24 indoors and 5:31 outdoors. Last year was her first XC season and she was able to shed nearly 2 minutes off her time from beginning to end of her 2015 season. Ava Neijna was only a freshman last season and showed she has a promising career ahead of her. She was a low 20 minute girl most of her freshman season which might of been injury plagued due to a 2 month gap in racing. She didn't run outdoor track either but had a good indoor season running 5:38 for 1600 and 3:11 for the 1000 qualifying for the 4A Indoor State Championships.
Hope Hartfield is stronger on the XC course than she is on the track. Last XC season as a junior she was very consistent running in the low 20s throughout most of the season and eclipsing the 20 minute barrier at the regional meet. She did have her best track season yet running 12:39 for the 3200. Emma Trowell had her first full XC season last year as she missed most of her freshman season. She ran 20:35 on the XC course and 5:40 on the track in the 1600. Annabelle Atkinson was a freshman last season and only ran XC for Broughton. So it'll be a question as to what form she is in going into the 2016 season and she will be a big wildcard this season.
