2015 NCHSAA 2A State Meet Finish - 2nd
Marvin Ridge took a big hit losing Kylie Hennessey, Nicole Renwick, and Melanie Hussey to graduation, but still return a lot of strong firepower in Alexa King and Jennae Jacob leading the charge this season. King is a three time all state runner finishing in the top 5 all three seasons. She was a state champion indoor season in 1600 where she ran 5:09. She had a rough outdoor season failing to qualify for the outdoor state meet but will be looking to bounce back after a strong summer of training.
Jannae Jacob really made great strides in the outdoor season and was challenging and even beating King in some races. She ran 5:12 and 2:19 during the season, cutting nearly 20 seconds off of her 1600 PR. She should certainly be a contender to finish top 10 if not top 5 at this years state championships. Lindsay Harrison mixed it up in the top 5 for the Mavericks last season and ended it well with a 45 place finish at states as a freshman. Harrison will assume a much larger roll this fall and should expect to cut her time down to the low 19s.
Where Marvin Ridge looks for someone to step up is in the 4/5 spot this season. Their depth is cut a little shorter than they normally have. Kaylee Spencer and Madeline McConnell are heading into their sophomore season after both dipping under 6 minutes for the 1600 last spring. The know they'll have some big shoes to fill this season and I'm sure Coach Starr has them with the right mindset going into the fall season. Another girl they could look at is Katie Ropers who has currently only run track, but has a strong 800 PR of 2:23 and advanced to the state meet in the event last season. Maybe Ropers decided to give the long distance a shot and could be a strong 5K girl for the Mavericks this fall.
