Claiming the No. 1 spot on our cross country pre-season countdown is Apex's Sarah Mitchell!
Mitchell was dominant during cross country last season, going undefeated all the way until the NCHSAA 4A Mideast Regional. She took runner-up to eventual state champion Carmen Alder. The regional was not a disappointment by any means as Mitchell ran 17:59, dipping under 18:00 for the first time.
Mitchell attended NCISAA's Grace Christian for her freshman and sophomore seasons. As a freshman, she was runner-up at the NCISAA 3A state meet! As an 8th grader she placed 5th in the NCISAA 1A/2A 1600m final.
On the track for Apex this past season she clocked a personal best and NC No. 4 10:37 3200m.
In the 1600m, Mitchell ran 4:52, which was NC No. 5 last season. And in the 800m her 2:16 was NC No. 11.
She won the NCHSAA 4A Mideast crowns in the 800m and 1600m
Mitchell really emerged as one of the top all-around stars in the state during her junior year. With a full season of NCHSAA completion under her belt, the sky is the limit for Mitchell this season. With large invitationals in full swing, something we were robbed of last season, Mitchell will get plenty of opportunities to face off with the best of the best in North Carolina.
A strong junior season for Apex proves that Mitchell is ready for the biggest stages in racing.
