Madeline Stolberg of Lake Norman High School claims the No. 9 spot on our NCRunners cross country pre-season countdown. Stolberg is coming off a great 2021 track campaign.
She ran a personal best of 5:02 in the 1600m at the 2021 NCHSAA 4A state meet where she placed 5th. She was 7th in the 800m, where she clocked 2:18. Her personal best in the 800m of 2:14, came earlier in the season at the NCRunners Twilight.
Stolberg is the defending NCHSAA 4A West cross country champion and took that momentum to the state meet where she placed 5th, good for an all-state selection. Her personal best of 18:14 came at the 4A West I-Meck Conference Championship. Her 18:14 is good for NC No. 8 among returners.
Stolberg, already a two-time cross country all-state runner, returns in 2021 looking to claim the empty throne atop the 4A classification. She went from 9th to 5th from 2019 to 2020. Can she drop four more places this season and go from 5th to 1st in 2021?
