MileSplit North Carolina 2021-2022 End of Year Awards

Boys' MVP - Rocky Hansen (Christ School)

What a year for the Christ School junior Rocky Hansen. New North Carolina state record in the mile and 2 mile, to go along with state titles in cross country and on the track. The hype started in September at the Eye Opener where he opened his season with a 15:32.30 victory. From there he placed 3rd at adidas Challenge, 12th in the Great American Race of Champions, and won his CAA Conference Championship. He capped off a stellar season with a personal best of 15:21.80 at the NCISAA State XC Championship.

During indoor season, he won the adidas Indoor National Championship in the one mile and two mile runs, running 4:14.27 and 9:07.36, respectively.

It wasn't until outdoor season, however, when Hansen started gaining national notoriety. He won the Carolina Distance Carnival 1,600m where he clocked 4:02.88. From there he went on an insane run, (no pun intended). He won the NCISAA DI triple crown, winning the state titles in the 800m, 1,600m, and 3,200m. Just a week later he made the trip to Alabama for the RunningLane Track Championships for the 1 Mile run. He took home the win in a loaded field and clocked a state record 4:00.76. That puts him less than a second off the elusive sub-4:00 mile. He finished his season with a national championship at New Balance Outdoor Nationals with a 8:46.97 state record in the 2 mile. He placed runner-up in the mile at New Balance Outdoors, as well.
