Girls' "Rookie" of the Year - Hannah Rae Shaffer (Cardinal Gibbons)

NC Freshman No. 2 all-time 1,600m. NC Freshman No. 2 all-time 3,200m. NC Freshman No. 2 all-time XC 5,000m. NC Freshman No. 12 all-time 800m. What a season for the next Cardinal Gibbons star, Hannah Rae Shaffer. Don't forget, she took home the NCHSAA 4A Outdoor 3,200m state title. During indoor season she was runner-up in the 1,000m and 3rd place in the 1,600m. She ran 4:51.84 in the 1,600m at Dogwood Track Classic, which was a five-second personal best for her.

She was runner-up at the NCHSAA 4A cross country state meet, where she ran 17:32. She clocked her personal best of 17:19.74 at the RunningLane Cross Country Championships where she placed 37th. She also won the Team XC Southeast Regional at WakeMed just three weeks after the state meet.

She was as consistent as they come. In her four 3,200m races she ranged from 10:32-10:37. In her three all-out 1,600m/1 Mile performances she ran 4:51, 4:56, and 4:58 (full mile). To cap it off in the 800m, in her two open 800m's she ran 2:17.21 and 2:18.76.
