The No. 6 spot on our girls team cross country pre-season countdown are the Pioneers of Watauga!
Watauga returns their entire top five from a team that won the 2020 NCHSAA 3A West Regional scoring only 25 points! They are led by defending-individual regional champion Sidra Miller! Miller was on a hot streak last season winning her first six cross country races of the season leading up to the regional.
Fellow-senior Sophie Beach was 3rd at the 3A West Regional and sophomore Rachel Cathey was 6th. Cathey ran 12:18 over 3200m in the spring.
If juniors Gwendolyn Anderson and Brianna Anderson can push up with Cathey and Beach, their 2-5 behind Miller could be very strong. Gwendolyn was 7th at the cross country regional and Brianna was 10th.
The reclassification puts Watauga up in the 4A classification going forward.
