Weekend Recap: Four NC Boys Battle To Big 1600m Times

Justin Hayes (Panther Creek), Christian Landis (Providence Day School), Jacob Laney (Porter Ridge), and Murphy Smith (Ardrey Kell) made the trip to Columbia, SC for the Rams High School Invite on Saturday. All four boys showed their fitness is as strong as ever as they gear up for a shortened outdoor track season.

Hayes really had a breakout performance Saturday, and proved his 9:17 3rd place finish at Dash For Doobie was no fluke.

Landis's 4:15 is good for No. 7 All-Time in NCISAA history, and is only five seconds off the 37 year old record.

Laney, only a sophomore, is really coming into his own. He currently has the NC No. 7 All-Time Sophomore 1600m.

Smith knocked off a few more seconds off his 1600m personal best showing he is looking healthy for the outdoor track season.

Notably, Jack Dingman (Northern Guilford) ran 4:18 in Virginia this weekend as well, showing he is ready for a big time season as well.

On the girls' side at the Rams High School Invite Providence Day freshmen Morgan Boonshaft and Carly Arrington went 1-3 overall. Boonshaft ran 5:10 and Arrington 5:21.
