JDL Fast Track To Install New Banked Track for 2025-26 Season
Mondotrack EI, unveiled at the Paris Olympics, chosen as preferred surface
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - January 14, 2025 - Currently in its 14th season and approaching its 500th meet, JDL Fast Track is proud to announce that that it will be constructing and installing a new Mondo permanent banked track in time for the 2025-26 season. The new track will feature Mondotrack EI, Mondo's newest track surface, which was developed for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. The existing surface is Mondotrack FTX, which was first used at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
"Mondotrack EI was designed to enhance athletic performance while preventing injuries," said Michael Tovar, director of track and field, Mondo America. "The new bottom layer, with elliptic geometric shapes, allows the track to react smoothly and dynamically to every step, jump, or throw, improving shock absorption and energy return."
"JDL Fast Track is excited to take the next step in our evolution with the introduction of this banked track that will be constructed in time for the 2025-26 season," said Craig Longhurst, facility director. "North Carolina has an amazing group of track and field athletes at both the high school and collegiate levels, and we are excited for them to take advantage of this new track. Athletes will no longer have to leave the state to run on a state-of-the-art banked track."
The project will begin in April with construction of a custom-designed 200m banked track with 11 degrees of banking. Once the structure is completed, Mondotrack EI will be installed on the oval and will also be installed on new runways for the long jump and pole vault runways. With the installation of the banked track, the sprint races will be contested on a new Mondo Super X sprint straightaway that will also serve as the warm-up track when the sprint races aren't being contested. The sprint straightaway will also get new FinishLynx Vision Pro timing cameras and UCS crash pad at the end of the straightaway.
The entire project is slated to be completed in the fall of 2025 in time for the start of the 2025-26 indoor season in November.
JDL Fast Track has become a mainstay in the Southeast for indoor track and field since 2012, as the only dedicated indoor track and field facility in North Carolina serving both high school and college athletes. With the introduction of a banked track, JDL will become the first permanently banked track in the state of North Carolina.
