Team Scores
Southeast Raleigh are going to be tough to beat. A year ago they edged Rocky River by 4 points with a score of 60-56. This year the Bulldogs come in as favorites with two star seniors in Sierra Fletcher (hurdles, 300m, relays) and Kyna Robinson (500m, 300m, relays). The two girls alone will likely put up around 35 points individually. Panther Creek is their biggest competition where they'll look for 30 points from Morgan Smalls in the jumps and rely on Shannon Sefton in the distance events, Maura Lane and Susannah Truitt in the pole vault and Kelly Smith in the Long Jump as well as a few relays. Southeast Raleigh is deep in the sprints with Ani Judd and freshman Jahzara Hart looking to score big points individually.
Reagan is loaded in the distance events with stars Sophie Faircloth, Ainsley Cooper and Gwen Parks looking to run the gauntlet and score enough points to get on the podium.
On the boys side Cary and Southeast Raleigh are going to have a very close battle. Southeast Raleigh will be relevant in all of the sprint and relay events as well as having Eric Haddock hoping to sweep the horizontal jumps. Cary relies heavily on the distance events and will need Stephen Atkinson to run at his full potential today. The have Anton Idhammar scoring big points in the 1600m and 1000m, but need to have Atkinson on the podium also. They come in as 57-56 favorites over Southeast Raleigh, but if they run their A relay team that is seeded 12th, it's likely the best 4x800m team in the state, so that would move them to 11 point favorites coming in. They've only run 8:24.94, but are easily under 8 minutes this winter or spring. A big day in the 3200m from Brian Picone, Jackson Martin and Ted Sielatycki would also be massive for the Imps.
Southeast Raleigh will score a lot of points in the relays and have the potential to have multiple athletes on the podium in both the 300m and 500m. Cary and Southeast have two of the top 4x400s, so the meet very well could come down to the final event.
