Girls Field
Shot Put
Two girls have thrown over 40 feet this year with Kaitlin McGoogan (Ragsdale) at 41-1.5 and Sydney Freeman (Millbrook) at 41-0.5. McGoogan was runner up a year ago and has been eyeing the title with Veronica Fraley now out of the way. Freeman looks to be the next up and coming throws star in NC and will look to take down the senior. Destiny Griffin (West Forsyth) and Autumn Judd (Southeast Raleigh) come in with seasons best of 39-6 and 38-9 respectively and will have a good shot at the shot put crown as well.
High Jump
The girls high jump is one of the hardest events to win. You have Eve English (Olympic) who has jumped 5-7, good enough to win 4A most years. However she is the third seed behind defending champion Morgan Smalls (Panther Creek) and Addie Renner (Myers Park) who have both jumped 5-10 this indoor season. Though they'll both have other events to focus on, it'll likely take around 6 feet to win the 4A High Jump.
Long & Triple Jump
Though Smalls is a star high jumper, she's also elite in the horizontal jumps where she comes in as the top seed with marks of 40-0 and 19-3.25. She'll face off against Jirah Sidberry (Rocky River) who is also a potential All-American in these events. She's jumped 19-2 and 38-5.5 this indoor season and is the second seed in both events. In the triple jump they'll have Djamila Peterson (Pine Forest) and Na'Zyia Evans (Olympic) give them a challenge as they'll all be around 40 feet this weekend.
Pole Vault
The event is headlined by state record holder Lindsay Absher (West Forsyth) who has jumped 13-2 this indoor season. She'll be tough to beat, however was beaten last year by Elise Hall (Leesville Road) who won win a mark of 11-0. The field is incredible deep with 7 girls coming in over 7 feet with Absher, Hall, Mckenna Brunick (Leesville Road), Maura Lane (Panther Creek), Diana Hall (Jordan), Susannah Truitt (Panther Creek) and Maddie Davies (Athens Drive). Brunick has jumped 12-6, good for NC#9 All-Time Indoors. She'll have to be the indoor state record holder to win a state title this year.
