NCHSAA 4A State Championship Meet Preview

Girls Distance

1600m

Carmen Alder (Pinecrest) will look to take down defending champion Sophie Faircloth (Reagan) after edging her at Mondo Elite a few weeks ago.  Alder holds the top time in NC at 4:58.82 with Faircloth at 5:01.70.  While those two girls come in as the favorites they'll have Ainsley Cooper (Reagan) who has run 5:09 and Katharine Priu (Cardinal Gibbons) who ran 5:15 last weekend.  Will they be able to hold on or will Alder and Cooper run away with it?

1000m

The girls 1000m is going to be very exciting with three girls in the field who have broken 3 minutes this year.  Alder and Gwen Parks (Reagan) will be doubling back from the 1600m earlier in the day.  Despite being a top seed Cora Cooke (Myers Park) is only entered in the 1000m, not the 1600m. You'll also have Sophie Faircloth (Reagan) who has run 3:00.88, Caroline Todd (Cardinal Gibbons) and Bailey Fowler (Green Hope).  Last year they finished Faircloth, Cooke, Alder with 3:03.8 being the winning mark.

3200m

Alder will plan to triple once again this year as she's entered in all of the distance events.  Last year she did the same and won the 3200m despite falling short in the 1600m and 1000m.  Alder ran 10:29 this season and has Katharine Priu (Cardinal Gibbons) as her biggest competition at 10:34.40.  It'll be interesting if Priu decides to scratch the 1600m and eye the individual crown in the 3200m.  Shannon Sefton (Panther Creek), Erin Spreen (Wake Forest), Ainsley Cooper (Reagan) and Jade Martin (Apex Friendship) will each fight for a spot on the podium.
