The girls 60m Dash is wide open with 8 different girls capable of taking the win. Alexis Patterson (Parkland) and Del'Nique Penn (Parkland) hold the fastest two 55m Dash marks in the state this season at 7.10 and 7.12. The rest of the field is .08 seconds off of those marks. Out of state competitors Kaniya Johnson (White Knoll, SC) has run 7.73 in the 60m Dash this year and Kayla Hunt (MLK, GA) has run 7.13 this season. You'll also have Olivia Hee (Providence Day) who has run once this season over a month ago to a 7.17 mark. Star freshman Jahzara Hart (Southeast Raleigh) has run 7.18 as well as 7.79 in the 55m & 60m Dash.
Zhamoura McPhail (High Point Central) has raced in one meet this year running 7.20 and 40.88. She had a big summer track season running 11.86 in the 100m Dash and I feel this could be a big breakout race for the junior. Jonah Ross (Garner) comes in with the slowest seed time, but should be the favorite after she showed her fitness last weekend at the VA Showcase. Ross ran NC#3 All-Time and current US#3 in the 300m Dash with a 38.64. She ran 7.20 in the 55m Dash last week just missing the finals, but she showed she's more than capable of throwing down a fast 60m Dash this weekend.
On the boys side Royal Burris (Harding University) leads a tight group with his US#6 55m Dash mark of 6.39. Just behind him in the national and state rankings are Isaiah Gadson and Cameron Rose (Hickory Ridge) and DJ Moyer (Reagan). The field will also hold Georgia 100m State Champion Ebony Jackson (Kell HS) who will make his indoor debut. Jackson holds a 100m dash PR o 10.57. We'll also see freshman Terrell Robinson (Mt. Tabor) in his first career race against a big field. Robinson has run 6.47 for the 55m Dash this season.
