Coming in at No. 9 on our boys individual cross country pre-season countdown is Millbrook sophomore Tyler Surface!
After COVID shut down Millbrook's chances at the 2020 NCHSAA cross country state meet, these Millbrook runners are going to be hungrier than ever to get back on the course. That brings us to sophomore-leader of this team, Tyler Surface. Surface ran 15:57 last season over 5000m, which was NC No. 1 and US No. 21 for his class. He was 4th in the CAP-7 cross country championships, finishing behind only three seniors. He placed 15th in the 2020 NCHSAA 4A East Regional on a very muddy and wet course helping Millbrook tie for the victory.
Surface ran 9:51 over 3200m during track season, good for NC No. 3 in his class, and 4:36 for 1600m which is good for NC No. 6 for his class. With invitationals back in full swing in 2021 Surface is definitely going to be challenging in those front packs and will be a candidate to be in the low-15:00's.
He is no stranger to high-level racing. Surface has ran on the USATF Junior stage since at least 2012, claiming many top ten finishes on the state and national level!
