Senior Isaiah Arnold leads this Ashley squad to the No. 10 spot on the NCRunners cross country pre-season team countdown. Arnold, an honorable mention in the individuals countdown, ran 15:56 last season over 5000m.
He did not run in the 2020 NCHSAA 4A East Regional, and Ashley still managed to finish 6th in what was arguably the toughest regional last season.
Rising senior William Marhold was 26th and rising sophomore Isaiah Perry was 27th at the regional last season. While rising senior Bradley Krieger was 33rd and rising junior was Bates Lancaster was 50th. With the addition of Arnold this Screaming Eagle squad returns their entire top five this season. With three seniors in the top five this season, the time is now for Ashley to make a push to the top of the state!
Marhold holds a personal best of 16:15, which is the No. 26 returning time in North Carolina this season. If he can work his way up and run with Arnold this Ashley team has a deadly 1-2 punch.
Ashley remains in NCHSAA 4A East after the state-wide reclassification. Arnold is the top returner in the region, and Marhold is 8th.
