Girls 800m
This is going to be a battle up front between Lauren Tolbert and Sanu Jallow. Tolbert just edged Jallow in their last matchup where they both ran 2:11! Could the 2:06 state record be in jeopardy? Charlotte Country Day duo Harper Shaw and Linde Fonville are ready for big performances. Fonville has a personal best of 2:18 to Shaw's 2:20. Shaw won the NCISAA D1 800m title just two weeks ago. South Carolina product Madison Roush (JL Mann, SC) will be looking to improve on her 2:19 personal best. A dark horse to win this race is defending South Carolina 800m state champion Avery Belk (James Island, SC), who is in 8TH GRADE. She holds a 2:14 personal best and will be looking to show off her skills in NC. It won't be all new faces for Belk, her teammate, freshman Hannah Vroon is lining up in the 800m as well! She won the South Carolina 1600m state championship in 4:58 and has a 2:18 personal best in the 800m. Madeline Stolberg (Lake Norman) has a 2:19 personal best and will be looking to drop some major time.
Girls 1600m
Carmen Alder (Pinecrest) headlines are star-studded field that includes other state champions. Alder leads the pack with a 4:46 personal best (full mile) and hopefully she can creep into the top five in North Carolina all-time outdoors. It will be no easy victory. Angie Allen (North Lincoln) and Gwen Parks (Reagan), Mary Bonner Dalton (Myers Park), Johna Grisik (Marist, GA) and Vroon, have already gone under 5:00 and will both be looking to crack that 4:50 barrier. The rest of the field is more than capable of all going under 5:00. Vanessa Alder (Pinecrest) leads a pack of girls gunning for sun 5:00. She will be racing that clock alongside Emma Jones (Weddington), Kasey Cone (Charlotte Country Day), Ryann Aycock (Cary Christian), Maddie Huecker (Lake Norman), Morgan Boonshaft (Providence Day School) and Lilly Walters (Hough).
