What To Watch From The NCHSAA 3A State Championships

Can Alysia Johnson Break The 400m State Record?

Alysia Johnson (Hillside) has a big weekend ahead of her with the 4x200m, 400m, 200m and 4x400m events as she hopes to lead Hillside to a team title.  Last weekend Johnson proved she was in the best form of her life as the junior clocked a NC No. 3 All-Time 53.18 400m at the 3A Mideast Regional.  The mark is also current US No. 4.  The high school state record is 52.74 from Demetria Washington (Terry Sanford) in 1997.  Though, Kayla Davis bettered that mark as a 7th grader clocking 52.54.

Johnson also clocked a 24.04 in the 200m at the regional meet.  She'll face off against 3A state leader Alexis Patterson (Parkland) who has run 23.89 this outdoor season.  Johnson and her Hillside teammates are also the favorites in the 4x200m and 4x400m where team points will be huge for them in their quest to a repeat 3A Team Title.
