State Records That Could Fall This Outdoor Season

Boys Pole Vault

Spencer Evans (Lake Norman) is a superstar.  The sophomore just came off a huge breakout indoor season where he jumped 16-5.25 at Indoor Nationals.  This is good for NC#2 All-Time Indoors behind Scott Houston's 16-10 from 2008.  Houston's best outdoor mark was 16-3 in High School as Apex's Drew Pedersen holds the Outdoor State Record of 16-5.

Evans has recently been in peak form as indoors was just two weeks ago.  Evans is slated to compete this weekend at Queen City relays and could get the outdoors state record out of the way early into his season and high school career.  At this point it feels inevitable that Evans will rewrite the Pole Vault record books. Note Evan's Outdoor PR is still just 14-1 as he hasn't jumped so far this outdoors season.  At this point last year as a freshman Evans was jumping 10-6, so his rapid rise to 16-5.25 in the event is certainly something you don't see often.
