Girls NCHSAA 1A/2A Indoor State Championships Preview: Can North Rowan dethrone Cummings?

Team Battle

This is going to be an epic battle between T.W. Andrews and Cummings come Friday night.  Cummings have won all three NCHSAA 1A/2A Indoor Team Titles and 5 of the final 7 NCHSAA 1A/2A/3A titles.  The virtual meet scores this as 83 points for T.W. Andrews to 79 points for Cummings.  But that 4 point spread can be made up in a snap as the school's athletes compete in primarily the same events with the horizontal jumps and sprints. T.W. Andrews has three athletes that will look to score big in 4 different events that make up the majority of their teams scoring.  With this being so it could throw off T.W. Andrews rankings in both the 4x200 and 4x400 since they won't be able to compete in the relays.  T.W. Andrews only has 6 other girls on their indoor roster, three of which are throwers and one who hasn't competed this indoor season.  Will they decide to scratch McKnight and Simmons in the High Jump and hope to put to add some 4x200 points?  Cummings is similar but have a key advantage with Mya Roberts in the shot put which could be the deciding factor amongst these two squads.  Without Roberts, the two teams would be tied in the virtual meet.  It is very likely whatever school has an athlete take the Long Jump title will walk away the team champion for 1A/2A where there is no room for error. A year ago Cummings beat T.W. Andrews by over 50 points, but now it's a whole different ball game.
