Girls NCHSAA 1A/2A Indoor State Championships Preview: Can North Rowan dethrone Cummings?

Distance

1600m

Anna Bristle (Parkwood) comes in with the top seed just ahead of Alex Rodman (First Flight) who have both run 5:17 this indoor season. Rodman has displayed excellence over 1000m where she ran 2:57.57 and should be in for a big 1600 PR if she goes all out.  Rodman took 2nd place last year with Bristle and Anna-Kathryn Kilby (Forbush) just behind in 3rd and 4th.  1A cross country champion Michaela Gammon (Lincoln Charter) has run 5:23 and cannot be counted out as a contender as well.

1000m

At the time when Malia Ellington (CSD) set the 1A/2A 1000m meet record in 2014 of 2:59.72 you would have thought that record would be safe for a long time.  But Alex Rodman's 2:57.57 at Virginia Tech proved that thought wrong.  Rodman comes in as the heavy favorite as likely no one will be able to run an equivalent pace as her.  She is the defending champion with her 3:02.92 from last season and comes in 18 seconds ahead of the second and third seeds Madisun Shore (Forbush) and Michaela Gammon (Lincoln Charter). If anyone is able to hold pace with Rodman early on they could be pulled to a huge PR in this race.

3200m

This looks to be a rematch of the NCHSAA 2A Cross Country Championships where Anna-Kathryn Kilby outlasted Eliza Witherspoon (Brevard) and Anna Bristle (Parkwood) to take home the state title.  Ava Findlay (Brevard) and Michaela Gammon (Lincoln Charter) and Amber Opp (Draughn) are the only other three girls under 12 minutes this indoor season.  Findlay and Witherspoon will come in with a long recover from the 4x800 as Kilby, Bristle and Gammon all have the 1600 earlier in the day.  Gammon proved last outdoor season she can recover fast where she won the 3200 after running the 1600 and 800 earlier in the day. Will the rest pay off in the Brevard runners favor come race time?
