Ja'Neil Harris after winning the Invitational Boys 300m in 33.04
--
Ja'Neil Harris of T.W. Andrews won the Invitational section of the VA Showcase 300m running a new personal best of 33.04. His mark is good for a NC#1, US#2 and NC#2 All-Time Indoors only behind Cameron Rose of Hickory Ridge's 32.84 from 2020s VA Showcase. Harris' mark is also good for US#9 All-Time Indoors.
Harris as in the outside of the track in lane 6 with Archbishop Carroll's Jake Odey-Jordan on his inside in lane 5. Odey-Jordan is the defending New Balance Indoor and Outdoor Nationals 200m Champion running 20.66 indoors and 20.55 (+0.1) outdoors in 2024.
Odey-Jordan would make up the stagger and would be even with Harris coming off the second of three turns over the 300m distance. But Harris would battle back and pull away coming off the final turn to bring home the win in 33.04. Harris' mark would beat the fastest mark set in the previous heat from Charlotte Christian's Evan Boykin who ran 33.43. His mark is NC#3 All-Time Indoors and Dominic Harper of Garner's 33.57 to take 4th place is good for NC#4 All-Time Indoors.
Harris would also run a 6.25 to run the fastest mark in the 55m prelims which is good for NC#9 All-Time Indoors and is currently tied for US#1 so far this indoor season. In the finals they'd run the 60m Dash and Harris would clock 6.75 to take 2nd with Evan Boykin of Charlotte Christian taking 3rd in 6.79.
