Article on Lecanto Team Results

The Lecanto boys cross country team, fresh off its Class 4A state title, traveled to North Carolina over the weekend to compete in the Foot Locker Southeastern Regional 5K run, an annual event that features many of the nation's top prep runners.

Senior Jeremy Edge won the unseeded division over a field of 263 runners, covering the 5K course in 16 minutes, 14 seconds. But it wasn't until the awards ceremony that Edge found out he had won. The apparent winner was disqualified for joining the race after it started.

Lecanto runners who competed included seniors Keith Gordon and juniors Sean McManus and Adam Spate in the elite seeded division. McManus was 34th in 16:03, Gordon 67th in 16:14 and Spate 76th in 16:20. Others in the unseeded division included senior Gary Plutta (43rd in 17:13), Casey Seijas (91st in 17:49) and Scott Zaninni (145th in 18:23). Travis Tatman ran 41st in the sophomore division in 17:32.
