What To Watch For Tomorrow At The NCHSAA 4A State Championships!

Boys Distance

1600m Run

After the cross country season John Tatter (R.J. Reynolds) had you'd think he'd be the favorite here, but just two weeks ago he was beaten by Cary junior Anton Idhammar.  Idhammar has a PR of 4:20.10 and Tatter 4:21.67.  Tatter was 4th at Foot Locker Nationals, and I'd say he's capable of running faster in this event.  But after losing the other week he'll have to take a different approach to the event.  Finn McBride (Green Hope) was also in that race, but had an off day.  The US Naval Academy commit has run 4:15 outdoors and will be looking to win his first individual state title this weekend as well.

1000m Run

Colin Alexander (Pinecrest) will look to break up the Green Hope trio of Ian Delgado, Sean Petersen and Matthew Kehn.  They've run 2:27.7, 2:32.39 and 2:33.77 respectively this indoor season while Alexander has run 2:33.58.  Green Hope will look to score big points in this event as they look to claim an indoor team title pretty much solely from distance events.  Delgado took a fall last year while contending for the win, and will certainly be hungry to get revenge in this event on the big stage.

3200m Run

John Tatter (R.J. Reynolds) ran 9:01 early in the indoor season and will be doubling back from the 1600 earlier in the day.  This will open the door for a lot of guys who have been running fast lately in Peyton Barish (Green Hope), Ryan Kemper (Green Hope), Sam Thornton (Cardinal Gibbons) and Ryan Brown (Broughton) to contend for the individual title.  Barish took a big win in the RHFitPro Elite 3200 the other week running 9:30 and will be eyeing to take down Tatter.
