The Providence senior had her best cross country season this fall, and has carried that success over to the track.
I certainly knew of Gina Daniel before June 6, 2012, but that's when she first impressed me as a potential title contender. It was an evening meet at Bishop McGuinness, a nationals tune-up for some and just the end of track season for others. Gina ran well in a very fast race that cooked some of the other participants, holding her own against girls with state championships on their resumes. Then she followed that by dropping more than a minute off her 5K PR during the fall season, and all of a sudden it looks like the potential I saw that night is close to being realized. I think the best is yet to come for Daniel, and we may not really see that until she runs in college. The state is loaded with strong mid-distance girls, and that will make it difficult for her to break through, but I think it's safe to say we can look forward to big times from this Providence runner during the spring season.
