Senior Spotlight: Hunter Roberts

The Southwest Guilford senior has been holding her own against the best hurdlers in the state; is this her year?

It's no secret that North Carolina has been producing strong girls' hurdlers over the last four years, and Southwest Guilford's Hunter Roberts has been part of that trend.  Last spring, she finished fourth in the 4A 100 Hurdles...but that race was ludicrously fast, and her time there makes her one of the top 20 returners in the nation going into the upcoming outdoor season.  Although it must be frustrating to run so fast and still finish fourth, I am sure that the competitive climate in that event has pushed her to greater heights.  Hunter has been biding her time, racing against older competitors and getting faster, and she hopes this is her year to break through as the state's top hurdler.  The biggest difficulty, aside from the sheer amount of talent in the state, is just in the nature of the race: one tiny mistake on one of the 10 hurdles can turn a great race into a major disappointment.  For that reason, high hurdlers have to have great concentration and a mindset that is different from any other event.  Since Hunter has already run PR's in the 55 and 60 Hurdles this winter, it would seem that she is well on her way!
