Watch Josh Cooper run 1:50.32 at the Virginia Tech Challenge
Willow Spring's junior Joshua Cooper competed in an 800m at the Virginia Tech Challenge against a collegiate and pro field today where he placed fourth overall running 1:50.32. The mark breaks a 20 year old North Carolina State Indoor Record by Karjuan Williams of New Bern set in 2006.
Cooper holds the North Carolina 1000m Indoor State record of 2:25.88 set earlier this season and previously held the 500m State Record that was broken at the NCHSAA 8A State Championships by Liam Kinken of 1:01.17 bettering Cooper's personal best from his sophomore year of 1:01.92.
This comes just days after Cooper had a strong day at the NCHSAA 8A State Championships where on Thursday morning he split 1:49.18 for Willow Springs that finished 2nd in 7:52.06, followed by a 2:27.28 1000m win the 1000m title.
Cooper ran 1:52.76 as a sophomore indoors and then 1:49.32 outdoors that sits at NC No. 4 All-Time Outdoors. He'll look to challenge one of the tougher state record of 1:48.01 set by John Crossley (West Carteret) in 2013 where he won New Balance Outdoor Nationals.
