Top North Carolina Boys Performances
1. Jonas Haygood - 17-18 200 champion, 21.27
Haygood delivered one of North Carolina's best performances of the meet by winning the oldest boys 200 for Run U Xpress. After opening with a 21.55 into a headwind, he improved to 21.27 in the final despite another negative wind to claim the national championship.
2. Bershawn Jackson Jr. - 14-year-old 200 hurdles champion, 24.41
Jackson raced to the 14-year-old 200-meter hurdles title for Run U Xpress. His personal-best 24.41 gave him a comfortable victory of more than six-tenths of a second.
3. Miles Cash - 17-18 400 hurdles runner-up, 51.99
Cash broke 52 seconds to earn a national runner-up finish for Run U Xpress. His personal-best 51.99 placed him behind only Brycen Martin and more than half a second ahead of third place.
4. Cameron Crouch - 12-year-old shot put runner-up
Crouch produced a personal-best performance for High Point Panthers Elite and finished second nationally in the 12-year-old shot put. It was one of North Carolina's strongest field-event performances of the meet.
5. Carter Joseph - 12-year-old 80 hurdles champion, 11.95
Joseph gave Lights Out Track and Field a national title in the 12-year-old hurdles. He crossed in 11.95 after running an even faster 11.84 in the preliminary round.
6. Carson McRae - 12-year-old 80 hurdles runner-up, 11.97
McRae finished directly behind Joseph, giving Lights Out Track and Field a North Carolina one-two finish. Only two-hundredths of a second separated the teammates in the final.
7. Jonas Haygood - 17-18 100, fifth, 10.54
Haygood showed his range extended beyond the 200. He placed fifth in the 100-meter final in 10.54, adding an All-American finish to his national championship in the longer sprint.
8. Antonio Clark - 17-18 100, seventh, 10.60
Clark advanced through all three rounds for Newman Athletic Academy and finished seventh nationally in a wind-legal 10.60. He had been even faster in the preliminaries, where his 10.47 ranked third overall.
9. Jordan Carpenter - 9-year-old long jump, fourth
Carpenter narrowly missed the podium for Charlotte Heat Track in the 9-year-old long jump. His performance placed fourth nationally in one of the meet's strongest younger-age-group jumping competitions.
10. Dwayne Allen - 14-year-old high jump
Allen represented Thomasville Bulldogs Elite in one of his signature events. The North Carolina athlete entered nationals as a proven jumper after strong high jump and triple jump performances at the Region 25 qualifier.
Curtis produced another strong sprint showing for Run U Xpress. He opened the competition with a 22.27 into a severe headwind and continued to improve as the rounds progressed.
12. Antonio Clark - 17-18 100 prelims, 10.47
Clark's opening-round 10.47 deserves recognition on its own. The Newman Athletic Academy sprinter posted the third-fastest preliminary mark in the entire 17-18 field.
13. Tristan Adams - 13-year-old 1,500, 4:32.91
Adams led North Carolina's younger boys distance contingent, placing 11th nationally for Charlotte Panthers Track. His 4:32.91 left him less than four seconds from an All-American top-eight position.
Crouch added another high national finish to his shot put runner-up performance. The High Point Panthers Elite thrower placed among the leaders in the discus, giving him two notable championship results.
15. Bershawn Jackson Jr. - 14-year-old 200 hurdles prelim, 24.68
Before winning the national championship, Jackson established himself as the athlete to beat with a 24.68 preliminary performance. He then improved to 24.41 when the title was on the line.
16. Miles Cash - 17-18 400 hurdles prelim, 53.70
Cash qualified third overall in the hurdles with a 53.70 before dropping nearly two seconds in the championship race. His progression to 51.99 in the final made him one of North Carolina's strongest performers of the week.
Curtis also produced one of North Carolina's better younger sprint performances in the 100. His wind-legal 11.02 came in an exceptionally large national field.
18. Samuel Hildreth - 13-year-old 1,500, 4:42.66
Hildreth finished 23rd nationally for High Point Blaze in the 13-year-old 1,500. His performance gave the club another solid result in the younger distance races.
19. Samuel Smith - 13-year-old 1,500, 4:44.60
Smith followed teammate Hildreth with a 26th-place finish for High Point Blaze. He crossed in 4:44.60, less than two seconds behind Hildreth.
20. Hudson Chiu - 13-year-old 200, 25.86
Chiu competed for High Point Blaze in the 13-year-old 200 and clocked 25.86 while racing into a strong headwind. He competed in a deep national preliminary field.
Top North Carolina Girls Performances
1. Zhoe Holt - 15-16 200 champion, 24.02
Holt added another AAU Junior Olympic championship to her résumé, winning the 15-16 girls 200 for Charlotte Heat Track. She clocked 24.02 into a headwind to take the national title.
Fraser reached the national podium for Run U Xpress with a 23.79 in the oldest girls 200. She progressed from 24.18 in the preliminaries to 23.66 in the semifinal before finishing third in the championship race.
3. Maddison Davis - 17-18 shot put runner-up
Davis placed second nationally in the 17-18 shot put for High Point Panthers Elite. Her performance gave North Carolina another major podium finish in the throws.
4. Kyleigh Bryant - 11-year-old 3,000 runner-up, 10:42.63
Bryant earned one of North Carolina's top distance finishes, placing second nationally for Charlotte Panthers Track. Her 10:42.63 left her less than four seconds behind the champion.
5. Zhoe Holt - 15-16 100, 11.66
Holt was also one of the meet's fastest 15-16 girls in the 100. She recorded an 11.66 performance during the competition, adding another elite sprint mark to her 200-meter championship.
6. Joya Clark - 15-16 100 prelims, 11.72
Clark led the entire field during the opening round of the 15-16 girls 100. The Run U Xpress sprinter won her heat in a wind-legal 11.72 and posted the fastest preliminary mark overall.
7. Zaria Holt - 17-18 100 hurdles, 14.52
Holt recorded one of North Carolina's leading older-girls hurdles performances with a 14.52 for Charlotte Heat Track.
8. Ndanu Pope - 15-16 800 prelims, 2:16.25
Pope turned in the fifth-fastest preliminary performance in the 15-16 girls 800. The High Point Blaze runner won her heat in 2:16.25.
9. Cassidee Fraser - 17-18 200 semifinal, 23.66
Fraser's semifinal may have been her fastest performance of the week. She ran 23.66 to rank among the leaders in the round before returning to earn a podium finish in the final.
