4x800m
The 2A girls would get things started in a dramatic 4x800m relay. The first team to cross the line would be Pine Lake Preparatory; however, due to disqualification, the de facto winner would be the girls from the NC School of Math & Science, running 10:04.88 for the win, powered home in a strong closing run by Catherine Parker, which would become a trend throughout the day. The rest of the podium positions would be filled by West Stanly finishing in 10:06.30 for second, East Duplin in third at 10:10.30, and Community School of Davidson in fourth, running 10:12.10.
In the 4A edition of the girls 4x800m, it became apparent early that the national record holders in the event, Cuthbertson, would not be running their "A" team. With that, the talented group from Mount Tabor became the clear favorites, and they wouldn't disappoint. Dominating from start to finish, Mount Tabor would run 9:02.71 for the win, just a touch slower than their NC #1 mark of 9:02.36, which they ran at the Penn Relays earlier this season. Cardinal Gibbons at 9:12.97 and Hoggard at 9:22.07 would put together strong runs as well to finish second and third in NC #2 and NC #4, respectively. Marvin Ridge would take the last podium spot, running 9:26.68 for fourth.
Due to projected rain and thunder, the 1A/3A action originally scheduled for Saturday ended up being postponed to Monday. However, this wouldn't affect the girls from Swain County in the opening event of the day, as they dominated from start to finish in the 1A 4x800m, recording a new 1A meet record with a time of 9:37.43. Christ the King Catholic took the runner-up position at 10:00.25.
The 3A girls would take the line next in the 4x800m, and it sure was an exciting one! Heading into the final lap, West Carteret had a seven-second lead over North Buncombe, back in third place. However, North Buncombe anchor leg Eden Barnwell was a woman on a mission, dropping a 2:13.39 split, passing Croatan and West Carteret in the final 150 meters to take the win in 9:25.02, a new NC #5 mark. West Carteret finished second in 9:27.40, followed by Croatan at 9:28.05 for third.
