TIE - Girls Freshman of the Year - D'Anna Cotton (Cummings) & Zoe Dorsey (Terry Sanford)
There were two freshmen that stood alone this season, and it did not feel right giving only one of them the deserving credit.
Cotton was the freshman state leader in the 100mH, 300mH, high jump, and triple jump. She won the NCHSAA 2A Mideast Regional in all four events.
She went on to win two state titles and added on two more all-state finishes. She won both field events, and was 3rd in both the hurdle finals. During the NCHSAA 1A/2A Indoor State Championship, she won the high jump, was runner-up in the triple jump and 55mH, and 3rd in the 55m dash.
Dorsey won two state titles of her own right during the NCHSAA 3A Outdoor State Championship. She doubled the 400m and 800m, taking wins in both. She is also NC Frosh No. 1 in both of those events. She has the freshman state record in the 800m as well, having clocked 2:09.85. Her time is good for US Frosh No. 6 this season.
