Boys Freshman of the Year - George Lawson (Forsyth Country Day)
The NCISAA 3A XC and NCISAA DII 1,600m runner-up George Lawson is our 2022-23 Boys Freshman of the Year.
He was the top freshman finisher in the invitational race at Friday Night Lights, and had the top freshman time of the day overall.
He ran 16:07 for the cross country 5,000m, which was NC Frosh No. 2 on the season. He went on to finish runner-up at the cross country state meet, helping his Forsyth Country Day team win the NCISAA 3A state championship.
During indoor season, he ran 4:30.14 in the 1,600m at the NCRunners Independent School Championship. That was NC Frosh No. 1 for indoor season.
On the outdoor track, he clocked 2:00.37 in the 800m, and 4:24.37 in the 1,600m. His 1,600m time is NC Frosh No. 1 for outdoor season and NC Frosh No. 4 all-time.
