North Carolina Future Stars: Dudley's Kamaal Ryan

This week's future star is Dudley freshman Kamaal Ryan!

Although the freshman is new to the high school scene, he is no stranger to the track and field circuit. Ryan won the adidas Outdoor Middle School 100m and 200m national championships this summer, running 10.71 and 21.80w, respectively. He was also runner-up in the 400m, clocking 50.97.

It has been as ideal of a start to his high school campaign as he can ask for. Opening his season at Liberty in early December, Ryan clocked 6.65 for the 55m dash. Less than a week later he ran his still-standing personal best of 6.56 at HOT Santa, in which he took home the win.

He also took the win in the 300m at HOT Santa, running another personal best in the process, 36.21.

Both those times stand as the current North Carolina Class of 2026 No. 1 times. He is class No. 2 in the 500m, just .04 seconds behind Amari Barrow's 1:10.26 from last week.

Ryan certainly has the pedigree, experience, and coaching to get to the top of the state. The only question is just how long will it take?
