Rising Stars: Greensboro Home School's Eli Stewart

Friday Night Lights was the first big invitational for a lot of young runners, and Greensboro Home School's Eli Stewart stepped up to the plate. Stewart toed the line for the Boys Open race on Friday, and lined up next to Corvian Community's Cole Fiorillo.

Stewart hung in at the front and it paid off with a huge win, and even bigger personal best. The freshman clocked a best of 17:14 to get the victory.

He has been around the running scene for a few years, and even won the NCRunners Elite XC Middle School 3,200m in 2020 as a 7th grader. He holds personal bests of 2:17 and 5:19 in the 800m and 1,600m, respectively.

In fact, in cross country Stewart has never placed outside of the top three.

Stewart has proven to be a big time racer that focuses on the place over time. As he gets older and the competition thickens, higher placing will results in those times I'm sure are in the back of his mind.
