XC Top Ten Countdown: Boys' No. 9 Chauncey Chen

Coming in at No. 9 on the pre-season boys' countdown is Weddington senior Chauncey Chen.

Chen was 10th in the 3,200m at both the indoor and outdoor NCHSAA 4A state meet. His personal best in the event of 9:29 ranks him No. 9 amongst returners.

On the track, Chen clocked 4:29.73 for 1,600m.

Last fall in cross country, he was 13th at the NCHSAA 4A state meet and helped lead Weddington to a runner-up finish.

He placed 6th in the NCHSAA 4A Midwest Regional and was runner-up in the Southern Carolina Conference Championship last fall. His personal best in cross country of 15:40.30 ranks him No. 7 in the state among returning athletes.

Chen is heading into a big senior season, where he will be relied upon to help deliver a state title to Weddington. He has plenty of big race experience, having qualified for multiple state meets across the three sports. If he can maintain with his teammate Caden Townshend, then this could easily turn into the best 1-2 punch in the state, (although I know one NCISAA school that also holds a strong case for best 1-2 punch).
