Highland Tech rising senior Lauren Tolbert ran 2:10.27 to win the AAU Junior Olympics 2021 17-18 age division 800m! Tolbert is coming off NCHSAA 1A state titles in the 400m and 800m, and she currently sits NC No. 3 all time in the 800m.
Tolbert ran a perfect race to win AAU Nationals. She took the pack out fast and led them through 400m in 1:03. She gave up the lead early into the second lap as she waited for her time to kick. Down the back stretch Tolbert and Anastacia Gonzalez (Celebrity Performance) broke away from the lead group. Tolbert made her move with 80 meters to go and did not look back. She powered down the home stretch to take the national title over Gonzalez, 2:10.27 to 2:10.68.
