North Carolina Boys Cross Country Performer of the Week (Aug. 31-Sep. 6)

After another week of cross-country racing in North Carolina, it's time to vote for the MileSplit North Carolina boys cross-country performer of the week.

This Week's Nominees:

Ahmn Byrd, Mooresville (North Carolina): Racing at the 2026 Pfeiffer University Cross Country Invitational, the senior crossed first among 196 finishers in 15:58.20 for 5K, opening a 29.9-second gap on the runner-up. That time ranks second among 1,152 athletes in MileSplit's database at this course since 2019, and it improved on a prior mark at this course by 18.1 seconds, down from 16:16.30.

Brooks Barbee, Christ School (North Carolina): Crossing the line in 15:02.30 was enough to hold off the field by 4.3 seconds and win at the Eye Opener among 452 finishers. The 5K clocking ranks second in MileSplit's database at The Roger Milliken Center since 2019 and improved on a prior mark at this course by 43.6 seconds.

Rus Howell, South Davidson (North Carolina): Winning by 8.3 seconds is one thing, but doing it as a freshman at the 2026 Pfeiffer University Cross Country Invitational adds another layer to this result. The 5K clocking of 17:18.80 was good for first out of 214 finishers. That time now sits at No. 49 of 1,153 athletes logged in MileSplit's database at this course since 2019.

Caleb Haselhorst, Hopewell (North Carolina): First place at the Eye Opener came in 16:26.00 for 5K, topping a field of 456 finishers. The time ranks No. 127 among 6,162 athletes in MileSplit's database at The Roger Milliken Center since 2019 and was 40.7 seconds faster than a prior mark on this course.

Michael Enriquez, New Hanover (North Carolina): At CCC Cross Country-North Brunswick, the senior won a 57-runner field in 16:01.66 for 5K, finishing 9.6 seconds ahead of the field. That clocking stands as the fastest in MileSplit's database at Northwest Park since 2019 among 456 athletes, improving on a prior mark at this course by 178.4 seconds, down from 19:00.05.
