Durham Academy is coming off a runner-up finish at last season's NCISAA 4A State Meet, but they're losing their 2-3-4 punch. Jay Shanahan is the top returner on this team and #3 overall in NCISAA. Shanahan currently sits #20 All-Time on the NCISAA XC list. The key to the Cavs success comes behind their senior leader. Fellow senior Kabir Khwaja was Durham Academy's #5 runner last season at the State Meet and finished 22nd overall. He will have to work with sophomore Aaron Caveney to get up towards the front group if they want to win the 4A title this season. George Linney has the 3rd fastest personal best on this Cavs team currently, but he had an off day at the state meet last season. Ryan Norris is only 14 seconds behind Caveney based on personal bests and will likely be the Cavs #5 runner this season at worst. With only a 25 second split from 3-5 the back end depth of the Cavs roster is the key to their overall success. We have a tough race atop the 4A divison in NCISAA and Durham Academy is right in the mix to walk away state champions.
