2018 3A state cross country champion Madeline Hill of Cuthbertson will look to defend her title this fall. Hill ran fast when it mattered most last year as she set her 5k personal best of 18:11.52 to win states, and she improved nearly every race last season. She followed a similar progressional pattern as a freshman when she placed third at her first ever state meet. If Hill progresses like so again this season as a junior, she could be a force to be reckoned with.
Hill came off of her strong cross country season last year with a solid indoor showing, finishing with NC #6 times in the 1,600m, 3,200m, and mile. She didn't have her best outdoor season a few months ago, but still set a personal record in the 3,200m of 11:11.66.
Hill will be one of the most important pieces for Cuthbertson to potentially follow up last year's team win with another title. If Hill can finish on top yet again, Cuthbertson could likely hear it's name announced last at the awards ceremony to win a tight team battle with the always competitive Weddington and Chapel Hill.
