Broughton senior Jack Rooney comes into the season with a strong 15:52 personal best time in the 5k from last season's Hare & Hounds Invite. He finished 13th in last season's 4A Cross Country State Championship in a loaded field and will return as the 5th best finisher from that race.
Rooney, who also managed to run 9:22 in the 3200m this past Outdoor Track season at adidas Raleigh Relays, ran a blazing 4:16 in the 1600m at the State Championship which was good for a 3rd place finish. Rooney won his regional for the 1600m and finished 2nd in the 3200m but elected not to run at States.
In the first preseason XC meet of the season Rooney won the BaySix Kickoff Classic 11-12 racing. While doing so he took down teammate John Malach and Panther Creek's Ian Harrison. Although it is only a 3k it is still an impressive victory for Rooney. Rooney and Malach will look to bring this Broughton squad back into championship contention. We could see a big breakout from the senior this fall.
