All of your NCHSAA team champions dating back to when NCHSAA Outdoor Track & Field began back in 1955. Cross Country for boys would begin the following school year. All classes were combined for the most part until 1986. 1968-1971 1A/2A competed separately outdoors but went back to all classes in 1972 until 1986. In 1986 through 1993 1A/2A competed together outdoors and we went to four separate state meets in 1993-1994.
Girls track began in the 1971-1972 school year. Cross country was recognized as a team sport for girls in the 1980-1981 school year.
1986 was also the first year of indoor track. Boys and girls classes all competed together until 2007. NCHSAA 1A/2A/3A competed together from 2007-2013. Then 1A/2A separated from 3A indoors in 2014.
Cross country for 1A/2A was combined from 1986 through 1996.
