Boys Distance
1000 Meter Run
Kyle Durham of Weddington is the top returner, and the rest of the field will be tough pressed to put pressure on the 2:30.3 1K runner. Kobe Brown (Southwest Guilford) has a sub 2:34 time, and Kyle Stamper (Cuthbertson), Jake Toomey (Weddington) and Jackson O'Hara (Weddington) all have broken 2:35. The top three will very likely come from this group, but after Brown it is anyone's guess who nabs the bronze.
1600 Meter Run
After four seniors took the top four spots last year, this race also favors Kyle Durham who will look to pick up the max points for his team. His teammate Jackson O'Hara has put up an impressive 4:22 to nab the second seed, but Cooper Castellaw is the next highest returner from last season and looks like he is in good form after a 4:26 in his last meet of the year. Haven Honeycutt of Asheville and Kyle Stamper (Cuthbertson) both have sub 4:25 times to their name this season and can be expected to contend for a podium spot.
3200 Meter Run
Ben Verchick (Union Pines) put up a blazing time at the Hoka two mile after cross country season. He can be expected to take this race out hard from the gun as he looks to avenge a second place finish in cross country states and pick up the long distance title. Cooper Castellaw has the other sub 9:30 time this season and will be a strong competitor for a title. Jacob Gallant from Mount Tabor will continue his breakout year and attempt to steal the top spot. Haven Honeycutt, Will Mazur and Avery Cannon will be chasing a top-three spot on Friday.
