NCHSAA 4A Girls Indoor State Championships Preview

Sprints & Hurdles

55m Dash

Tamara Clark (High Point Central) will look to defend her 4A 55m Dash title and she enters as the top seed at 7.02.  Clark has maintained a low key indoor season thus far only running the 55m Dash 3 times.  She will look to become the 10th girl in state history to break the 7 second mark.  She will be challenged by superstar freshman Jordan Sales (J.H. Rose) who has run 7.08 and Kylia Wright (Southeast Raleigh) at 7.10.  Jamila McKoy (Hillside) has run 7.11 and had a breakout performance at the Eastern High School Challenge where she cut .26 seconds off her PR in what has been a breakout senior season.  McKoy's teammate freshman Alysia Johnson (Hillside) will also pose a threat for a podium spot and enters as the 5th seed.

300m Dash

Tamara Clark (High Point Central) has been 4th, 3rd and 1st in this event over her high school career.  Clark clocked a 39.23 at last years indoor state championships holding off Charla Ward (Ragsdale), who seems to be injured this indoor season. Clark's season best of 38.80 and will pose a tremendous threat to Tyra Lea's (Wakefield) meet record of 38.76.  Kiya Oviosun (Southeast Guilford) has also run under 40 seconds with a 39.51.  Freshman Jonah Ross (Garner) has recorded a 40.16, one of the fastest freshman girls in NC in a long time and could be a superstar in the sprint events over the next couple seasons.  Sierra Fletcher (SE Raleigh), Alysia Johnson (Hillside) and Taylor Currie (Cardinal Gibbons) will also make for a fast 300m final section.

500m Dash

There are two standout girls in the girls 500 in Kyna Robinson (SE Raleigh) and Maya Singletary (Hoke County) who have both run 1:15. this indoor season.  Last season Robinson took 3rd overall and is the top returner in the event.  Singletary took 5th last season, but seems to be in much better shape this time around.  Monzerad Creary (High Point Central) and Lindsey Eastwood (Green Hope) will be look to score an upset win over the two standouts.  Only 10 4A girls hit the 500m standard, 8 of which will be back next season.

55m Hurdles

Akira Rhodes (Mallard Creek) took 2nd to Breanne Bygrave (Wakefield) last season running 8.16, and has run an equivalent mark this indoor season.  Sierra Fletecher (SE Raleigh) took 5th last season and is the 2nd seed in this race with a 8.30.  Last years 3rd place finisher Charnessa Reid (Mt. Tabor) will also be in the mix for the win in what looks to be a three girl battle.
