Key Losses
Danielle Rinn - moved to Nebraska
Key Returners
I originally had Weddington ranked as a top 5 team, but with the news of top returned Danielle Rinn moving to Nebraska, just one year after she moved from Iowa, the Warriors take a slight hit in the rankings. They return a strong sophomore trio with Alex Wall, Sydney Burke, and Sarah Bechtel. Bechtel really had a strong track season where she ran 5:09 and 11:30 on the track. She challenged Rinn towards the end of the season as Weddington's top girl. She will be looked at as the top girl to lead this Warriors team this fall.
Sydney Burke was solid during the track season running and was pretty consistent over the course of the season. Burke ran 5:27 and 11:44 in the spring season. Burke shined the most last cross country season at the NCHSAA 3A State Championships where she finished 22nd in bad weather conditions. Alex Wall will be a question mark for the Warriors heading into the fall season. We didn't see her during the indoor or outdoor season and not sure if that was due to injury or playing another sport during the track season. Last fall Wall was very consistent running in low 20s or high 19s during the outdoor season. Weddington will really need to have her back in top form this season.
Weddington will need to develop a 4 & 5 this season. Sophia McKenzie will return as their #4 and is just off of the top 3 girls PR wise. She was 37th at last years state meet and will be the senior leader for a young Weddington team. Meredith Davis and Elizabeth Farquhar have top 7 experience from last years squad, but will be looked at to step up for the Warriors this fall. Currently Weddington's issue will be their 4-5 gap, so one of these girls will need to look to close that gap a bit. Anna Brown is the top girl off the Weddington Middle School team that should be headed to Weddington HS this fall. Maybe she can come in and be a big factor during the fall XC season.
