2015 NCHSAA 3A State Meet Finish - 6th

West Carteret returns their full top 7 from 2015 lead by senior Emme Fisher.  Fisher was 6th at the NCHSAA State Meet last year.  She's coming off of her best track season yet and was narrowly held off from an individual state title by Anna Vess in the 1600 at state. Fisher clocked a 5:00.99 for third.  She holds a PR of 18:13 from her sophomore year, and I would expect her to be back in that form this XC season.

West Carteret doesn't have a huge team and don't have as many options as their competitors.  They return a tight pack from 2-5 that have a 23 second gap.  Delaney Dodge looks to have been focusing on longer distance training as she only raced 3200s last spring.  Dodge might be ready for a big break out senior cross country season.  Alyssa Vidales had a good freshman season and came up big for West Carteret towards the end.  She was fifth in the East Regional and 52nd at the state meet.  If she can come into this season like she ended last season she could be in for a serious breakout season.

Samantha Decker is going into her junior year and second cross country season.  She ended very strong finishing 8th and regionals and 41st at the state meet last season.  After now having a whole year of running under her belt she could be in for a big season.  And their fifth returning is Mackenzie Whitaker.  Yes, you read that right.  The star hurdler on the track is also their 5th girl on the XC course. Though in past years Whitaker hasn't ran but a few races.  Last year she didn't race until October but really was a major part of the success they had last season.  With Whitaker's training most likely not being focused on XC, as she gears up for a big senior season on the track,  she could be a question mark for West Carteret this season.  Beyond 5 they don't have much depth and will really look for her to be able to hang with their main pack of 4 girls.  That being said, we might not see the full potential of this West Carteret team until the end of the season.
