Boys Open
Hilton Head star Sam Gilman will be heading to Great American as well as teammate Joshua Willams, Eastside's (SC) Noah White and Broughton's JJ Malach. This leaves the race pretty wide open with Ryan Brown (Broughton) being the top seed at 15:50, with teammates Jack Rooney and Jacob Wells just behind at 15:58 and 16:02. They'll also have Ryan Moosbrugger (Hilton Head) in the mix who has run 15:51 as Hilton Heads #3 gut this year. The race will also feature Kyle Thompson (Blue Ridge, SC), Andrew Kiss (Cuthbertson), Brian Picone (Cary), Russell Engle (Providence) and Murphy Smith (Ardrey Kell) who each will look to break 16 for the first time.
The team battle between Broughton and Cary is going to be a great one! Cary is coming off a big win at Greensboro last weekend with their top 4 breaking 16:20. Though Broughton will be missing Malach, their top 4 are very tough and all should be in the top 10 if they run well tomorrow. But the Capitals will be searching for a 5th man tomorrow which opens the door for Cary who could put 7 in before Broughton does 5. Though knowing the Broughton program there is a very good chance Will Hopkins, Leslie Boney or Dylan Shankle run better than there season's best is on paper. This very well could be a battle we see later this fall for a podium spot at the NCHSAA 4A State Championships.
