THE SAVAGE 16! Any male athlete whose team is not competing and has recorded a 1600 meter of 4:30.24 (FAT or converted) or faster in their high school career will be allowed to enter the meet, individually, FOR FREE!!! The time for female athletes is 5:30.24. This must be done with the approval of your coach. If your team is already entered in the meet, then you are already in. If your team is not attending, but you want to roll hard in the paint,  email jesseautry@ccs.k12.nc.us to enter.

The Al Munoz Memorial Scholarship was started to honor the memory of a Al Munoz who passed away in 2014. Munoz was a phenomenal runner, soldier, father, coach, and mentor. In his prime Munoz was a runner on the verge of breaking 4 minutes in the mile before he made the decision to enlist in the military. During his time in the Army he was a paratrooper who completed 7 deployments that earned him a multitude of accolades and awards. Munoz's military services would ultimately bring him to Fort Bragg and Fayetteville where he would reside until his passing. It was in his time here that he made his biggest impacts on the youth of Fayetteville.

Munoz's love of running took him to the Fayetteville Flyers and Terry Sanford high school where he oversaw the cross country program as head coach from 2008 until his passing. To Munoz the color or mascot on your uniform did not matter, if he could help you in any way he would. He mentored young men and women across Cumberland, Hoke, and Harnett County. Many of these athletes went on to compete at schools such as UNCG, West Point, Mars Hill, Western Carolina, and NC State. Above all else coach Munoz instilled in his athletes the attributes of commitment, humility, and integrity. Often times he would remind his athletes that the true competition was not with other teams or athletes but was with yourself and striving to be the best possible version of you.
