Kayla won the girls 4A State Meet one second off the course record, she ran 17:28.
Mihret ran a gutsy race, taking the lead at one point during the last 800. Finished with a 15:24.
This duel to the wire was just one tiny part of an incredibly fast and competitive pair of races from the state's largest schools.
